Patch 1.17 went live on August 27, 2026 for PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One / Series X|S and Steam. It adds support for the Tarnished Pack and brings a round of buffs aimed at underused weapons, parrying and a few forgotten spells. You need it to play online.
Patch 1.17: the short version
- Parrying got better with daggers, curved swords and small shields.
- A large group of shields got more guard boost and less weight.
- Throwing weapons hit harder and cost less stamina.
- Perfume bottles were buffed across the board.
- Great Katanas were fixed: crits and jump attacks now work as intended.
- No major nerfs to popular builds: the build tier list stays the same.
Weapons
| Weapon | Change |
|---|---|
| Smithscript Dagger | Higher critical hit damage |
| Rellana’s Twin Blades | Higher critical hit damage |
| Smithscript Axe, Smithscript Spear, Spear of the Impaler | Throwing attacks cost less stamina and deal more damage |
| Carian Sorcery Sword | Intelligence now scales every damage type |
| Firespark, Lightning, Chilling, Frenzyflame and Deadly Poison Perfume Bottles | More damage |
| Rakshasa’s Great Katana | Small nerf: when it is in the left hand, a right-hand attack right after it now takes slightly longer |
| Smithscript Greathammer | Throwing attacks deal more damage |
| Storm Wall (skill) | No longer costs FP, and parries with it are easier |
| Many shields | More guard boost, less weight |
Parrying
After a parry with a dagger, curved sword or small shield you can now act sooner. In practice the window between a successful parry and your riposte is shorter, so parry builds with a Bandit’s Buckler or a curved sword are more forgiving.
Sorceries and incantations

Bug fixes
- Critical hits with Great Katanas dealt less damage than expected against large enemies.
- Jumping attacks with Great Katanas could be parried.
- PC: the mouse could not control the camera during NPC dialogue.
- PC: the reset button in keyboard and mouse settings did not work correctly.
What it means for your build
- Intelligence players: the Carian Sorcery Sword is now a real spellblade option next to Moonveil.
- Dexterity players: curved swords and daggers gain the most from the parry change; the katana build is unaffected.
- Faith players: O, Flame! and Rain of Fire are better crowd tools for the Taker’s Flames build.
